• Participants gain employment skills and explore vocational options. • Emphasis is on a work-place skills training such as communication, problem solving, and conflict management. • Keeping current with computer technology is part of the participants work day. • Employment placement and supports assist participants to secure and maintain employment in the community. • Being part of 2 Associations owned and operated businesses.
We also do recreational activities as well. We have some annual events we participate or attend. We are spontaneous in some of our outings and will plan something and head out if the weather is good or if there is an activity or function we are interested in. Accessing the community and surrounding area allows for exposure and help to maintain ability to practice social and organizational skills. Some annual events that we attend are: Dairy congress, Mayfield dinner theatre, Gingerbread house making day, Annual Christmas Dinner & Dance, Annual gift exchange and pot luck lunch. We also promote fitness through informal exercise activities such as bi-weekly bowling, aqua size, bocce ball, golf, community walks, beach days and any other activity that comes up.
Leduc Hospital Gift Shop The Association opened the “Gift shop” in December, 2006. The store moved to its current location (just inside the main doors) in January, 2009 .
The gift shop offers a wide variety of items such as: • Gift Ware • Sundry items • Greeting cards • Snacks • Cold beverages • Coffee
The gift shop has developed a reputation for carrying unique reasonably priced items. We have a lot of repeat customers from patients to hospital staff to people who just come to the hospital to shop at the gift shop!! A lot of our customers refer to it as Leduc’s best kept secret for shopping!!! Space is limited so our customers have learned over the years to buy it if you like it because if you don’t it will be gone!!!
Staff of LCLA attends the Alberta Gift show in the spring and fall and a lot of time and dedication goes into picking the items for the shop to ensure the continued success of our little shop. Participants of LCLA take pride of ownership and are very proud of the Gift Shop. While working at the gift shop the participants learn a variety of skills such as: customer service, money skills, organization, ordering stock and keeping shop neat, tidy and well stocked.
Leduc Community Living Association Hot Dog Cart We purchased our own mobile hot dog cart and May 1st, 2007 was our first day of business. The cart was obtained through a community capacity grant offered through PDD and with donations we received from the Leduc Lions Club. The cart offers a wide variety of job opportunities for the individuals at LCLA. We operate the cart 4 days a week in downtown Leduc. There are 3 cart shifts per day; cart prep, cart sales and cart clean up. The business provides a wide range of skill development and the individuals take pride in ownership of the cart. We finished the 3rd year of business on September 25th,2009 and are pleased to report that the business continues to grow as our 3rd season was the most successful to date. The cart offers Hot dogs, smokies with fried onions, sauerkraut, hot peppers and all the typical condiments. Pop and chips are also available to purchase. We are especially pleased with the exposure that the Hot Dog Cart gives the Association and the individuals within the community. Regular customers have gotten to know the workers and are asking some valid questions about LCLA and what it is all about. We feel that through the work at the cart it is building some “natural” connections in the community. We also have a hot dog costume that we use as a mascot to promote the business…..The participants of LCLA take turns wearing the costume. There is a lineup of people willing to wear the costume and head out to promote the cart!
